Newsletter December-January CRR24

It is now 2024! It’s a new year and we are back with another issue of our newsletter!

We have properly started the manufacturing phase of the project and the workshop is in full use.

Sandvik Coromant held a design review to help us finish up designing our parts. A big thank you for taking the time to help us!

Last year’s car went on a field trip to HANZA for the inauguration of HANZA Mechanic Töcksfors’ new bending and punching line. Thank you for having us!

We took a day to complete the Formula Student registration quizzes. The team did a great job and we are almost ready to reveal where we will be competing this summer, stay tuned!

Aerodynamics

The past months the aerodynamic group has started manufacturing and laminating parts and different components. We have also spent time doing CFD analysis in Ansys to validate the aerodynamic package of CRR24.

Chassis

During December and January, the chassis team has been heavily involved in the production phase and has been working in collaboration with the other groups to ensure that all drawings and materials were prepared and finished for our outsourcing partners. Furthermore, some members from the chassis group visited and picked up cut pipes for our steel tube chassis from our sponsor, Luni Metall in Hillerstorp. The visit was valuable and much appreciated, a partnership we hope will continue. Tubes for the roll hoops were delivered to our partner, Industri Mekano, who helps us with the bending of the tubes. The group has also started work on filling out the Structural Equivalency Spreadsheet (SES). The work has gone well and will continue to ensure the team’s success.

Suspension & Maneuvering

During December and January the main focus of the suspension group was to finish all the drawings of the parts we are to manufacture. We also finished designing the last parts which had an extended CAD-deadline. For example, the rear wheel hubs and uprights received minor changes after a design review with our main sponsor Sandvik Coromant who will manufacture the parts. After Christmas, the suspension group spent their last days working with computers for a while. We double checked everything before fully going into the manufacturing phase of the project. Now, all members of the group have assumed their manufacturing roles and can be found in the workshop welding, turning, milling or doing CAM and operating the CNCs. We will soon do some destructive testing with carbon fiber rods together with Aero. We want to gather more data and experience on the strength of carbon fiber rods and hope to use them for the suspension for the first time in a few years.

Electronics & Drivetrain

During these months the electronics and drivetrain group has been developing all our subsystems in the car and we are progressing steadily. We received our motors and inverters from AMKMotion and we look forward to start working with them.

Marketing & Finance

In our Business and Finance department, we have started to plan our journey, anticipating challenges and strategizing on how to overcome them.We have continued to  send emails and orders to different domains, such as Norelem. We’ve initiated the process with BBP and CEF, showcasing our journey in this project, along with all the information regarding the car’s construction. Collaboration with the manufacturing department has been crucial in preparing for the BOM, consolidating materials for inclusion in the competition documentation, detailing every aspect of the car. Marketing & PR have been focused on producing content for our social media such as the team presentation and sponsor content. We have also prepared for marketing material to be produced, both team jackets and rollups, while also brainstorming ideas for our upcoming video featuring our new car. There are also a few fairs coming up in the next few months that we will be attending. Keep a lookout on our social media to see when that’s happening!

Now we will continue to work hard and we’ll see you in the next issue!
